How Long, O Lord, How Long?

For thousands of years now men have known that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of their sins.  The story has been told from generation to generation that God assured Abraham that He would not destroy Sodom if ten righteous souls could be found there, but alas, there were not even ten.  Angels, appearing as men, led Lot, his wife and two daughters out of the city and instructed them to flee and not look back.  But Lot's wife disobeyed, looked back and turned into a pillar of salt.  The Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah and destroyed those cities so completely that modern archaeologists have been unable to find so much as a trace of their existence.

Various passages of Scripture like 2 Peter 2:6 and Jude 7 refer to the destruction of those cities as an example of the wrath of God against such wickedness.  Yet today, masses of people in our society dare not speak out against homosexuality.  To do so might seem politically incorrect.  Not only does the "gay' community demonstrate with parades and banners to gain recognition but government leaders grant license for such sinful behavior.  After all, they too want to be recognized and be in the favor of the voting public.  But homosexuality is more than just an alternate life style.  It is an abomination in the eyes of God.  It is a sinful violation of the very nature of the way that God created us (Romans 1:27) and sadly it is becoming more accepted by many in this world.  Thus it is written, "Evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse deceiving and being deceived" (2 Timothy 3:13).

People may get in trouble handing out Bibles in public schools, but schools can hand out condoms so young people can commit fornication with less risk of developing pregnancy, and in case of unwanted pregnancies there are the abortion clinics that will murder the babies.  Just about every imaginable form of immorality is rampant in our society.

Is there no fear of God?  How long will such devilishness continue before He intervenes?  In the meantime, what is the position of those who believe in Him?  We must be shining lights in this world of darkness. We will be social misfits and may experience severe opposition and even persecution, but we must be strong and stand for what is right.  We must not conform to this world's standards (Romans 12:2) but be faithful to Him who loved us and died to make our salvation possible.

We do not know how soon He is coming, but we know He is coming again and will reward every man according to his deeds whether they be good or evil.  Be ready.
