Volume 48 Number 5 May 2006
The world around us swirls about in chaos with fear and uncertainty lurking around every corner, but Christians have a
“peace that passes understanding.” We believe that God is in control, that He will “work all things together for good to them that love God.” (See Romans 8:28). Regardless of the sickness, pain, and suffering present in this life, we can continue steadfastly ahead, realizing our Creator is faithful and will strengthen and protect us! (2 Thessalonians 3:3).God’s faithfulness extends to a plan for our lives
(Jeremiah 29:11). While many around us continuously question and search for a meaning to their lives, we have confidence in a plan God laid out for us years ago. Others search for meaning in self-destructive avenues such as drugs, promiscuity, and materialism, trying to decide who they are, where they came from, and what they are supposed to do with their lives. Meanwhile, we can skip that stressful and uncertain process and instead have peace in the knowledge that God made us, that we are created to do good works, and that He has provided a plan for us to rest eternally with Him in heaven. As we keep our eyes focused on our hope for heaven, our belief provides serenity as the number of candles on our birthday cakes increases. We don’t have to worry about every ache and pain, nor do we need to desperately seek anti-aging potions and fountains of youth, because we aren’t afraid of emptiness in death. Rather, we have a hope that the struggles of our mortal existence will cease and we will have our rest and reward with our Creator
(1 Thessalonians 4:14-18).The benefits of our belief are priceless!
