It was the same with the life of Jesus Christ. While He was alive, he could hand out salvation as He chose. A good example of this is Luke 23:39-43 where Jesus told the thief on the cross, “Today shalt thou be with me in paradise”.
But after Jesus died, salvation is determined by Jesus’ last Will and Testament.
We read in Hebrews 9:17: “For a testament is in force after men are dead, otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.” The last Will and Testament of Jesus Christ is what we refer to as the New Testament.
The heirs of Jesus will are mentioned in Hebrews 1:14 as well as Galatians 3:29 which says “And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
