Looking for Peace?

Dane L. Hartman

In America’s high pressure society of fast paced living, stress and adversity seem to be at an all time high for many people. Studies by the American Medical Association have shown that stress is a factor in more than 75 percent of all illness and disease today. Modern medicine has tried to combat these times with an abundance of prescription medicines while others have looked for an escape in illegal drugs, alcohol, and other avenues. While these may offer a temporary occurrence of peace, the Creator of life and the author of peace is the source of true contentment. The Bible states in Roman 5:1 that “Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Faith in Christ Jesus offers peace that cannot be found anywhere else. This peace comes from knowing that the Lord has forgiven us of our mistakes and removed our sin if we receive his offer of salvation (I Peter 3:21).

Those faithful to God can also have peace by knowing that the Lord watches over them and that they can cast all of their troubles upon the Almighty God as stated in I Peter 5:7. Without the peace that God offers we are left to carry our burdens alone and find ourselves pondering what will happen to us after this life is over. God offers peace to those who are faithful because they can be assured that God is looking out for them both in this life and in the life to come.

“The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace.” (Psalms 29:11)
