Volume 46 Number 11 July 2004
We had been studying the topic of prayer for nearly two months in our
Wednesday evening adult Bible class. We covered almost everything that is
connected to the topic of prayer. There was one thing, however, we didn't
mention and that was to "Thank God for His Answer."
There is an account in the book of Luke, (Luke 17:11-19), dealing with
this subject. Ten lepers came to Christ to be cleansed. He told them to
report to the priest to be examined, and as they went on their way they
were healed. Of the ten who were cleansed, only one returned to thank the
Lord. Too often, we can be identified with the nine who went their way,
not thinking to express gratitude to Christ.
There are a number of things that will help us remember to thank God for
answers to our prayers. Here are a few suggestions. We should practice to
thank God for every evidence of His work, even though the answer may not
be what we expected. When we do receive an answer to a prayer, thank God
in a special prayer. And then gives thanks to Him by giving Him praise
before others and telling others what He has done for us.
God doesn't take our complaining, and our ingratitude lightly. Such
words despise His grace. It is far better to stop and count our
blessings, to think about them, and thank God for them!
