“If someone says ‘I love God’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; ....
And this commandment (singular) have we from him, that he who loves God
love his brother also.” I John 4:20-21
My brethren, if we love one another, let us do what Priscilla
and Aquila did for Apollos. Please let us deal gently, kindly and
patiently with one another if we are eager for the truth and not
competition. We may differ on matters of expediency, understanding and
opinion where God give us choices and the option. God leaves it to our
best judgment how to conduct ourselves and still not disrupt fellowship
to one another. If we believe complete doctrinal correctness is required
for fellowship with God or with other Christians, were we in fellowship
with God just before you changed doctrinally the last time? When we start
preaching the gospel, we change our stand and understanding from time to
time when the Bible tell us to do so. God died when we are yet sinners
not when we are righteous (Romans 5:8). Did Abraham become justified
because he was perfectly doctrinally correct? We are not save by our
sinless obedience, nor by our perfect doctrinal understanding BUT by our
perfect faith in Christ. We may do all the right doctrine but err in our
attitudes (big problem). We might be like the Pharisees, doing the right
things for the wrong motives. True doctrine is very important, but true
doctrine will not let us diminish the importance how God’s people treat
each other (Jeremiah 9:23-24).
If there are things needed to be corrected in the past let us do it by
Love. (Eph 4:1-2). Remember we are all human beings subject to commit
mistake. A local congregation is not a group of Christians who agree on
everything they understand in the Bible, but they are agreed on what they
do collectively. We must agree to behave ourselves toward each other
according to Biblical principles in matters we differ on (love one
another). The church was also compared to husband and wife (Eph 5:23),
Sometime ( or most of the time) husband and wife differ from their
understanding but they still love each other. God commanded us not to put
away our wives nor wives separate to her husband but to reconcile in love
(I Corinthians 7:10-11). This is also the same principle to the brotherhood
belongs to Christ church. If we differ my brethren in our understanding
in some issues why don’t we sit down and talk in Love (no limit of time).
Now if we still differ until the Second Coming of our Lord, Let Him judge
us (Romans 14:4). I pray we are willing to treat our brothers the same
way we would like to be treated! Yet, if we are unwilling to practice
what we expect from others, there’s a word that apply to us? Hypocrite
(Matt. 23:4).
Let God be true forever and ever. All credit and honor belongs to Him,
Him alone.
