FAITH: The Vital Element
Rich Miller

Faith is defined as belief in, trust in, and loyalty to God. It is one of the main requisites for leaders of churches everywhere as well as our eternal salvation. Without faith, we all but sever our relationship with our Father in Heaven. All of our works and prayer will be for naught if we do not perform our Christian duties with an active and obedient faith. We are reminded of faithful souls throughout the Bible who put themselves in great peril for the cause of Christ. We, as Christians, should always strive to imitate their character and ideals.

As I have previously mentioned, all our works mean nothing if they are not carried out with faith. In Hebrews 11:6 we read: "But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." The biblical figures that faced grave danger all trusted in God, and God delivered by giving them the ability to overcome insurmountable odds and triumph over situations that often meant certain death. Some examples are King Jehoshaphat's victory over a massive joint army, Sarah's conception at an extremely advanced age, Moses' forsaking of Egypt, and Abraham's order to offer Isaac as a sacrifice. The examples are almost endless. The thing that all these people had in common was their faith being the foundation for their courage. II Peter 1:5-7 tells us of several items such as virtue and knowledge that reside on the foundation of faith. Without faith, how can we overcome the stumbling blocks set before us? For that matter, how can we be called diligent seekers of Christ?

Faith is also an essential ingredient for repentance and remission of sins. In the sermon in Acts 2:38, the then-unsaved souls were told to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins to receive the Holy Spirit. Those who obeyed by faith were blessed.
