Volume 37 Number 11 July 1995
The brethren at Smart Road in Lee's Summit, MO, had good reason to rejoice when Dylan Sparks gave his life to the Lord on April 15th. Dylan is the oldest son of Rick & Lynn Sparks. *** Two baptisms recently in Bakersfield, CA: Amos Hunter, 11, answered the call of God and was baptized at the South Fairfax Church of Christ in Bakersfield on Sunday, May 28th. Just one week later, Marcus Garcia was immersed into Christ on June 4th. Amos is the son of Carl & Peggy Hunter and Marcus is the son of Robert & Bobbi Garcia. *** Another soul added to the church at 9001 W. 10th St. in Indianapolis, IN, when Bill Kuhn placed membership there on May 28th. *** The brethren at 1018 N. Main St. in Brookfield, MO, are rejoicing over two additions during the month of June: Rachel Russell, 13, was immersed into Christ on June 12th by her father, Donald Ray Russell. Then on June 21st, Ernest Dale Almond was baptized for the remission of sins by his older brother, Wesley Almond, Junior. *** Two precious souls added at 7th & Mission in San Jose, CA, when Sunrise Decena and Kelly Robinson were baptized into Christ on June 25th. May the Lord richly bless each and every one of these new additions and may we never forget the debt of love we owe every member of the body of Christ.
Boyd Yearick of the Nittany, PA, congregation fell asleep in Jesus on April 3rd at the age of 103, less than three months shy of his 104th birthday. He lived alone at the old homestead on the ridge right up to his death. Your editor had the privilege of meeting this faithful soldier of the cross a few years ago and interviewing him about his varied experiences in life which ranged from teaching school as a young man to preaching the gospel for many years. Our sympathies to the family, and to the brethren in Nittany who will miss this familiar landmark. *** Jacob St. John, 82, of the 505 Elms Blvd. congregation in Excelsior Springs, MO, finished his earthly course on May 12th. He was a faithful member of the church for many years and served as a deacon at one time. His oldest son, Bob, now serves the church as an elder. Our sympathies to his wife, Norma, the family, and the brethren at Excelsior Springs.
Roman "Roger" Wanasen's scheduled trip to the United States in June was delayed due to problems obtaining a Visa, but we are happy to report that the situation has been taken care of and now plans are once again being firmed up for him to come this month on July 14th. The following is his tentative itinerary:
Brother Wanasen will leave from Los Angeles and be returning home to his family on August2lst. Again we want to encourage brethren to meet this good brother and make him feel welcome during his visit to our country. Lewis & Norma Riggen (10919 W. Connecticut Ave., Sun City, AZ 85351-3722), who have been active in the 35th & Lewis congregation since the 1950's, celebrated 60 years of marriage on May 29th. Also in the same congregation, Clarence & Freida Clem (4949 W. Northern Ave. Apt. 118, Glendale, AZ 85301-8046) celebrated 58 years of marriage on June 13th. They were instrumental in establishing the congregation in the early'50's. Our congratulations and best wishes go out to both of these durable couples. *** Lloyd Spencer of the Stull, KS, congregation has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Your prayers and cards would be appreciated on behalf of this brother in Christ (R.R. 3 Box 42D, Lawrence, KS 66044) *** Two engagements recently announced: Jeremy Morris of the Murray Road congregation in Lee's Summit, MO, & Michelle Martin of Lawrence, KS, and Mark Little & Kathy Germann, both from Murray Road in Lee's Summit, MO, have all revealed their plans to marry. We congratulate both couples and pray for them the best blessings of the Lord so that their marriages may glorify God.
Joseph L. "Joe" Frazier of the 9th & Jefferson congregation in Carrollton, MO, reached the century mark back on January 9th. This faithful brother in Christ has done much good during his 100 years on earth and your editor considers it a privilege and honor to know this godly man. His dear wife, Aley, left this life 14 years ago in 1981, and together they raised 8 children. From these eight children, brother Joe has 177 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren! Think of it! Besides serving our country in WWI, Joe has served the Lord as an elder in two congregations in the Kansas City, and has brought lessons at several more in the surrounding area. Your editor can remember him when he used to visit at Claycomo, MO, after he had moved back to Carrollton. I will never forget the time he spoke about hell and lit a match in the pulpit to drive home the point. He now lives at the Carrollton Nursing Center and we pray the Lord will continue to bless and comfort this faithful servant. We thank brother Joe for "doing what he could, while he could."
