Faith
F. Wilford Landes

Faith is the motivating power which enables one to meet the known and the unknown, the present and the future. Without faith either in self, in other people and in God, man will be unable to move forward.

We need faith in ourselves and our abilities so that we can stand honorably before men and God and our own individual self. When individuals have no faith in themselves, they are constantly forcing themselves to do the necessary things of life.

We need faith in others lest we cynically decree the world to be nothing of value or beauty. Faith in others presupposes that God is and that man accepts him as his Creator. Faith in others brightens each day.

We must have faith in God. Man without faith in God has lowered himself to the level of animals. He is truly the victim of "the survival of the fittest" theory. We need only to review the history of modern, godless Communism to see this exemplified. Godless Russia has no qualms in putting to death literally hundreds of thousands in order to attain the ambitions of a few men. Godless China has killed upward of 12 million of their own people in the last ten years in order that a few might rule and have their own desires. Without faith in God man is subject to his passions and to them alone.

Faith in God elevates man and enables him to have faith both in himself and his fellowmen. Without this faith men become like packs of wolves, ready to turn upon the weak and the injured of their own, as readily as upon a common enemy. Peter thus said that upon faith men can grow in virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness and love—II Peter 1 : 5-7.
